Searching for circles

In this exploratory design project, the students in Bachelor year 2 were briefed to design furniture to fit a potential circular economy. The concept of circularity is examined and investigated through hands-on experiments with an innovative material based on textile waste.

In collaboration with industrial partners The Loop Factory and National Högsäter, the students have sourced and re-valued discarded garments to design objects that use recycled textile fiber material in combination with wood. The idea of separation is a precondition for circular flows of materials, and the students present different ways of approaching this challenge.

Varberg based The Loop Factory’s process turns textile waste into new textile fiber material suited for compression moulding. In this collaborative project, the students worked with National Högsäter, to prototype furniture components using industrial compression moulding processes.
