Om Kalle Klockars

Kalle Klockars has more than 20 years of experience as a designer, chief designer and design manager working mainly with product design and design management projects. He has been employed at different consulting design studios and a shorter period he was freelancing. Kalles fascination has always been the creation of experiences using shapes, colours, materials, sounds, movement and more. This is always achieved working in multidisciplinary teams. These collaborations are both fun and rewarding, and often a whole a project in itself.

As a means to get product design assignments Kalle quite early started working with strategies, brand development and market issues. These smaller projects served as pre-studies and created the necessary foundation for the more hands-on product design projects. Soon these pre-studies grew and became their own complex design projects and over time they became one of his main occupations as a designer. This special field led Kalle in to innovation projects, organization design and business strategies, often combined and reinforced with visualization, and traditional product design. Through his career he has had a special focus on the Life science area, which touches some of the areas that triggers his interest such as ethics, business and market matters, sustainability and the designers role in society. It is also an area where creating the intended experience is more than essential in the process of creating the best conditions for healing. Kalle also has a special interest in the project-leading role that a designer often have working with a client, where it is possible to develop and change the power structures and professional relations within the client´s organization.

Since 2011 Kalle Klockars is a lecturer and associate professor in Design at the Academy of Design and Crafts, HDK at the University of Gothenburg, and for the last five years also Programme Director at the BA level Design programme.

In his research he asks the question: Why a trans-disciplinary design education? He researches and refects upon the mechanisms behind the programme he is running. Studying reactions from academia and industry, formulating conclusions and strategies connected to the programme.
