Om Mattias Gunnarsson

Mattias is a Senior Lecturer in Design at the Academy for Design and Crafts. He lectures, tutors, runs courses and workshops in Design at both BA- and MA-level. He has a background in spatial design, with an interest for the city and public space. The urban environment with its many layers of information and narratives are often a part of his courses, lectures, workshops and artistic practice.

He is a collaborator who engages in many different projects in different settings where some are within course structures of the department, while others are trans-disciplinary projects connecting people from various fields in both shorter time-limited situations as well as longer ongoing collaborations such as Cell and MASU that both serve as (sometimes different, sometimes intersecting) collective platforms for artistic issues.

Mattias also has a great interested in, and work with zines, self-publishing, publishing as artistic practice and issues revolving independent publishing, distribution, trading work, no-isbn etc He continuously publishes zines and art publications that he trades in an international network.

For the academic year of 2020-2021 Mattias will be involved in both the BA and MA Design Programs and in the extra curricular course EAT-Food culture, Materiality and Design. He will also run artistic projects with MASU + Cell and continue to develop the HDK Zine Archive.
