Artist Linda Sormin explores upheaval, fragility, migration and change through sculpture and site-responsive installation. Ceramics whips through the second decade of this century, upturning notions of 'discipline', resisting long-held values. Fine lines scatter: inter-, cross-, multi-, non-... Have skill and fluency run aground? What is worth risking in making space for newness? Is clay sintering or simpering under the hot lights of contemporary galleries, art fairs and biennales? What opportunities might be lost or found at a time when bucking is the trend? These questions persist, as Linda Sormin makes sculpture and installations by hand. In this talk she will share her process and continue to dig toward answers.

The lecture will be looking at a cross section of ceramic artist Martin Bodilsen Kaldahl's works to establish an understanding of the artistic development over the last 15 years. The non-narrative, abstract character of the works appears a constant, but the processual approach has undergone great changes in the period, not least through the use of digital media as a means to challenging his perceptions of formal possibilities.

Lecturer: Martin Bodilsen Kaldahl is a ceramic artist, curator and teacher living and working in Copenhagen, Denmark. He is associate professor since 2009 of Ceramic Design at SuperFormLab at KADK, The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Schools of Architecture, Design and Conservation. For three years they ran a gallery in Copenhagen from 2012-2014 CC, curating 27 exhibitions.
