Two schools, with top competence in Design, Crafts and Teacher Training Programmes in Sloyd and Visual Arts are soon to merge. From 1 July the University part of Steneby in Dals Långed and today’s HDK in Gothenburg will both go under the name of HDK – School of Design and Crafts. Bitte Nygren, former Director of Swedish Museum of Architecture will become Head of School and Jeff Kaller will be Deputy Head of School.

New HDK: Distinctively International Study Environments in Dals Långed and Gothenburg.

Two schools, with top competence in Design, Crafts and Teacher Training Programmes in Sloyd and Visual Arts are soon to merge. The aim of this merger is to create a distinctively international environment that will promote disciplinary and interdisciplinary education and research.

From 1st July Steneby – the School of Craft and Design in Dals Långed and the present HDK in Gothenburg will both go under the name of HDK – School of Design and Crafts. HDK is an abbreviation of the Swedish name.

Play is a fundamental human activity. But what if your playground is a dump? Are all materials acceptable to play with? How can light and sound give new dimensions to public spaces?

Imagine a toy box inspired by Icelandic myths and a cabinet where you can both express yourself and hide. Students from the unique Swedish master’s programme Child Culture Design exhibit ”Play in progress” in Milan 17-22 April.
