Teaching structure

Around us we see a growing need for an attitude that is more prepared to exceed given limits within the field of design. Cooperation and collaboration across the borders set up by subjects and competences are necessary to meet future challenges. HDK has therefore devised design programmes without traditional professional boundaries, programmes that are thus unique in Scandinavia.

This also influences the form tuition takes: you collaborate with fellow students who have different design orientations such as graphic design, product design, industrial design and interior design for example. During your period of study you will in this way deepen your understanding of the entire field of design, and you will develop a wide circle of contacts.

Child Culture Design is a specialisation within the HDK Design Programme, MA level. Tuition is mostly carried out in project form, in groups or individually. During project studies teachers will give you support and supervision and technicians who are qualified in different specialised fields will help you in the workshops. And external partners contribute with specialist competence in the field of children and play.

Independent projects are mixed with joint workshops, current issues seminars and lectures on subjects of immediate interest such as for example theory of science, cultural semiotics, research methods, project skills and presentation techniques.

As a student at Child Culture Design you have the possibility of influencing the content and orientation of your education. We attach great importance to your own learning process and to your being mature enough for a free form of teaching.

You will have access to well-equipped computer halls, workshops, studios and library.

The programme is carried out in English. Individual supervision is offered in Swedish and/or English.
