Crafts

At HDK, education in crafts is available at three levels and with three specialities: Ceramic Art, Jewellery Art and Textile Art at bachelor’s, master’s and postgraduate levels.

Artistic practice is the main focus, in which ideas and attitudes are developed by processing materials. You will be able to develop your artistry through practical work in well-equipped workshops with qualified technicians. Professors and teachers artistically active on the international scene will be your supervisors.  Guest lecturers and teachers will be invited to provide new perspectives on your work as well as on the art world and the community.

Crafts studies at HDK are conducted in small student groups with close contact between students and staff. Discussion is kept alive by means of studio conversations, courses, lectures and seminars, and you will have opportunities for practice in reflecting on and contextualising your work. You will be working on your own and in groups, with other students from your speciality as well as students from the other specialities.

Our unique postgraduate programme focuses on creating a theory of crafts with the perspective of the practitioners as its starting point. Research from within practice. Close cooperation with the postgraduate level enriches theoretical discussions at the master’s and bachelor’s levels.
