Open Week Talks: Walking is just catching yourself while falling over and over and over – On research practice and paths to and through academia

The road to research and research practice within academia is seldom clear or straight-forward. A talk and panel discussion with Alejandro Arevena/Elemental the winner of the Gothenburg Award for Sustainable Development 2017. Alejandro Aravena is an innovative Chilean Architect who, along with his colleagues in the ‘Do Tank’ firm Elemental, applies a design philosophy based on making inhabitants part of the solution instead of regarding them as a problem.

Mimicry refers to imitation – copying someone or something. Biomimicry, for example, believes that by emulating systems in nature we can find elegant design solutions. This lecture considers the fine lines between mimicry, admiration and plagiarism.
